Ooohhh.....interesting.....(doffs Thinking Cap and strokes chin in a quizzicle fashion)........
Me too. Got an idea or two but probably difficult to implement.
I have an out of sheep error and a weather forecast that suggests there will be no lovely sunrises or sunsets for the next ten days.
Still, the good news about weather forecasts is that past a few hours ahead they are invariably wrong :)
We've been lucky up here this last few days.....the nights have been clear and cold, leading to frosty mornings with whispy clouds tinged with pink and red.....tonights forecast is the same, so fingers crossed the morning will follow suit.....
In case it doesn't, would getting incoherently drunk and seeing a red haze the following morning still count?.... :D

Only if you've got the black eye from the wife to prove it! :P
Congrats on the win George H - some lateral thinking might be required for his week!
One question....I have always heard sailor's delight, never shepherd's. Is that more common in the UK or did I miss something?

You sure it's not 'red light'?

I'm sure there are variations on the theme as there are with many colloquialisms. Still, sailors' delight doesn't help me much either; the sea is 4 hours drive away.

Where I come from they used to say "Red sky at night, the coal shed`s alight" ;)

hahaha...like it
Reasonable weather yesterday so I went hunting sheep! Just as well really, it's back to grey, wet and cold again today. There is snow on the distant hills but it's not showing up too well.

These shots are straight off the camera but might come in handy for this competition if I don't see a sky with more red.

The ocean, 2 days drive for me :) I do have a lake only 15 minutes drive from home, but the shoreline in the city is not good. I just read on the weekend that Windermere, the largest lake in the UK is only 6 square miles? That is a pond over here :) I am jealous of the ocean coast line in the UK though :(
Windemere is the largest body of water in England. The largest in the UK is Lough Neagh, about 148 square miles. Still tiny by world standards :'(

What I read it was worded UK. Yes, still tiny. Can you see the other side? That is a pond :)

Not from here. :D
The dreich weather has set in.....sods' law...but I have got a shot I may enter. Technically it's not a red sky by natural causes, but it is red....of sorts.
Not sure I'll manage an entry, as I'm 'laid up.'
Had surgery on my leg and have to sit with my foot up, which means I have to sit sideways at my little wall desk, with foot on cardboard box. Very tiring and I cannot really see enough detail on the screen to do very much editing. (My poor eyesight means I have to stick my head almost into the screen to see properly.)
Till I find a solution, I'll have to stick to the most necessary things!

Thanks Andy, so do I.
Stitches will come out in a forthnight, and till then, I can forget about any proper walking.
I wonder if the weather will bring a red sky :-\ or perhaps I will have to edit one in, as I'm not planning on going any great distance in search of a warm lit evening sunset or a tropical sunrise.
I took a sunrise out of the window earlier in the week, as a 'just in case.'
If I can see enough to do a bit of editing, I might even enter it.

No worries on that front! Or maybe just one: sitting around all the time, will not be good for the waistline!

It's not the sitting that causes the problem but the snacking! :o :P
Hope you are up and mobile soon.

Fortunately I am not a snacker, but I simply eat too much!
We have found it difficult, to adjust the amount we cook, to 'two person size,' after daughter left home.
But we're learning. We now often make a four person meal, and freeze half of it. (Have to remove the surplus before we start eating, otherwise there won't be enough left to make it worthwhile to freeze!)
Thanks for the good wishes.
Get well soon Re.
Simon, just seen your entry. I think you're being too restrictive about the whisky - it's not just for shepherds you know

Thanks H.
I had the impression, Simon's 'shepherd,' is living a whisky induced dream!
Edit: Only just saw your explanation Simon; I was right about the shepherd then. Sometimes my eyes do
not deceive me!
Hinfrance - Agreed. I enjoy a dram or two myself.
My "shepherd" was trying hard to look as if he would enjoy that glassful of cold tea.
You're so mean Simon, you didn't even give him a blend!
I'm up for a Bowmore this evening. I'd like an Ardbeg, I've finished the last bottle, but there are no outlets in France, and the distillery will not ship here. Still, I really don't care which Islay it is
His choice - I did offer a Talisker - my favourite and always brings its home in Skye to mind.
Weather finally played towards the theme this week.
As The Crow Flies

This was my other contender - but in the end in my opinion, the haze when facing the light source and those awful wires, appear more atmospheric and moody to the qualities of fading light.

Oooh....Islay malts......now you're talking. I'm more of a Jura man, although I do like an Ardbeg.
Well, the weather hasn't presented any red mornings, but the sun is out today and it's relatively clear......so hopefully it will result in a nice sunset. If not, it'll have to be the man made one I've entered ???
With the weather as it is over most of the UK, I decided to enter the shot I took earlier in the week as a back up, to boost the numbers a bit.
Shot from the living room.
Golden Eye.
(http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/albums/userpics/11140/normal_Golden_Eye_.jpg) (http://cameracraniums.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=12782)
Alas, the conditions havent presented themselves........weather is meant to be the same for tomorrow :(
Will run with my manmade red sky........not exactly on the money, but I'll give it a go.
Just took almost the same shot I entered, I'll have a look at it and see if it is any better.
It does mean though, that there must be other places where there was (it's gone now) a golden/orangey tint in the sky. Maybe even in Scotland?
It's been a rubbish week as far as sunsets go here (it's the school hols at the moment, tomorrow I have to get up in the dark for the school run, so I've been taking the opportunity to get up when it's light :)).
Only one evening left to see if something better than the smudge of red light I managed to capture earlier in the week materialises.
Internet returned at last :) was getting worried, and i must apologise for choosing such a weather dependant challenge, especially as its not been very cooperative, but i like the entries i've seen :) I got more of a red horizon :p the only good red sky i saw was whilst i was looking at it from in work.
Glad you got the interweb back George.
Well. tonight's sunset was pants, so I am entering one from earlier this week.
