my daughter is looking to spend £200 of her xmas money on a camera, she doesn't want a point and shoot, maybe a 2nd hand camera, any idea's?

Had a quick look and Grey's of Westminster have three D70 at under £200. It's a cracking camera but only 6mp. As you have a Nikon she could borrow some of your lenses as unlike the D40, the D70 hasn't got restrictions on which lenses you can use.  ;D

They are near the bottom of the page.  :tup:

Check out the used lists of SRS and Park Cameras. Both have quite reasonable prices and are good companies to deal with. I had a second hand camera from SRS which had a minor fault after a couple of weeks and they collected it and gave me the choice of a replacement or immediate refund as soon as they received it back. Park seem to have some popular models at good prices - again I had a second hand camera from them which was as new and a bit cheaper than I'd have expected to pay on ebay.

Take a look at Ffordes site as they have a good selection of Canon , Nikon, Pentax and other DSLR's under £200. Mostly body only but some come with a lense.

They stock a huge range of lenses and are good to deal with.

I'm with Oldboy on this and recommend an old D70. Perfect learning camera and prints upto A4 as good as any new camera.

Doubtless i'll be shot for saying it but...

Nothing wrong with a good old 50mm f1.8 as a first lens either. Can't think of a better learning lens if you get a body only deal. These lenses can still be had from various places for a bargain price...

Dad's probably got one.  ::)

cheers for the replies, the D70 looks like a winner here, she is 18 and has artistic tendencies so we shall see where it takes her
and Oldboy...i wish i had invested in a 50mm, some people can't live without them and i don't even have one.

I have the Nikon 50mm F1.4 but don't use it that often.  ???

I had a day in London recently....( May have mentioned it once or twice!) I just took a 50/1.4 on a D700 and found it most liberating...just like the good old days.
  When I'm Prime Minister they'll be compulsory.

Me too, but after reading this thread I am determined to set one days shooting with this lens only. Will also benefit my back/shoulders if I leave the Bigma at home for a day.

Also look at the D50. Great cam and in some circles is rated better than the D70 and D80 on IQ due to the more modern sensor.

Having used both the D50 and D70 I'd probably agree that the D50, although lacking some of the features of the D70, was actually a nicer camera to use. And at the time was highly rated for it's high ISO results.
