Yep. House Sparrows are on the red list but not due to the Sparrow Hawk( who also has to eat and he'll eat any small bird not just Sparrows)
We have a lot of sparrows down here but they are still on the decline. Shame . Thaey are lovely little bird and very communal

Oh . And thanks for looking in

Markulous

Glad to say the Sparrows are beginning to come back here, having been missing for a few years  :)

But now it's the Greenfinches that've gone! We used to have quite a few but now only the occasional one!  :'(

My setup is a very sheltered/grown over area which definitely puts some birds off (usually the larger ones) but I do get the occasional Greater Spotted Woodpecker and Nuthatch (along with loads of Blue/Coal/Great Tits, Chaffinches, Dunnocks, Robins, etc). Having said that, my neighbour has two bushes on either side of their feeders and do get a greater quantity, including my fav, the Long-Tailed Tit
Whatever and ever. Amen

The population of House and Hedge Sparrows seems to have remained pretty constant here over the last ten years. Plenty of nesting areas in the old stone buildings and hedgerows. Watching a bunch of them hounding (yes I know sparrows are not hounds  :2funny:) the Kestrel away was quite a sight.

Greenfinch and Yellowhammers seem low this year, like I've not spotted any recently, but I hope I will soon

It's strange as I think the most common bird on my feeders is Greenfinches followed by Goldfinches

We have been in the house for over 7 years and never seen a House Sparrow in the garden until this year when we have a couple occasionally visit, this year also we have a couple of Song Thrushes that seem to be permanent visitors, much to the annoyance of the Blackbirds  :)
