Giant Atlass Moth - Attacus atlas

The Atlas Moth has the largest wing surface area of all moths (but not the longest wings)
t is so named because its wing patterns resemble maps. The Atlas Moth's wings have triangular transparent "windows" whose purpose we don't know. The wing tips are hooked and some say resemble a snake's head complete with eye, to scare off predators.
Non indigenous to the uk .
Taken a couple of years ago resting on my hand

You can certainly guage its size in this picture and also see the "snakes heads". You really do need something else in the picture to demonstrate its size...

As I took the pic and am not too far from my hand I t is all I can show. I will look and see if I have any more pics of it though ...................not on my hand Very Happy

Sorry Beryl - gramatical error there on my part. What i meant was it was good you included your hand in the picture as a picture of the moth by itself would not demonstrate its size.

Lol. I wonderd if Ihad read it croectly. Iam very dyslexic so some time wonder what peeps are askng . Yes I had to stretch back to take the photo the moth was so big . I will look and see if there are any more though.
