Looking forward to seeing the entries for this one. I like bits of history (but not boring things like political history) an I'm curious to see what people will photograph.It may be nice if they post the image in the chat thread as well as the entry thread, and tell us a little bit about the history of the photograph.

Having planned to go shooting a few historical buildings in Leeds when I set this theme I realised that I had time to go to the last day of the Haworth 1940`s weekend. It`s usually busy and overrun with photographers trying to get shots of those in costume. I thought I wonder who`s around early before the crowds of day trippers get there on the Sunday morning and it was great to find that I was the only one not in costume on the streets that early. I must put that right one year and go in costume if I can. Lovely event - people so friendly and so many photo opportunities. rather than one of the countless portraits I got I thought I`d show the 1940`s street shot. Only the prices and the odd street furniture and signs were 2017!

The Dying Gladiator is a sculpture above a pub with that name in Brigg. It is thought to be the only pub with that name in the YK or even world. (Hard to prove)
The sculpture is actually a dying Gaul. It is a Gaul warrior (the neck torc and his nakedness identify him as such) and like Rodin's the thinker is a much copied statue. If you want to know more just Google "Dying Gaul".

Sorted now - glitch no longer there...

My entry is the 'A History of Sunderland'. This in itself is historical an mines no longer feature in Sunderland's industries anymore. Also, theres a crane, representing the long gone shipbuilding in Sunderland. If you peep through the wheel, you can see the spire of Holy Trinity Church, opened in 1719. So my entry has lots of Sunderland's history in it.

My favourite local Chateau - Bridoire. Dates from the 13th century and the 100 Years War. Like most castles of that time ownership and loyalties switched back and forth a number of times. It seems that castles were simply too costly to have destroyed simply on a point of principle, and when the new boss is much the same as the old boss . .
It has recently been undergoing some restoration after having been derelict for decades of ownership by a Senegalese prince who simply never went there and completely neglected it.

Even though I am not quite back into photography, I did a trip in this beautifully maintained steamship, a member of the National Historic Fleet. As it fits the brief, I thought I'd enter this week's competition.

This is Northampton Guildhall, built between 1861 and 1864. It is built in the net-gothic style and is adorned with statues of Monarchs who visited over the years. It also has a memorial to Princess Diana, who although being born in Norfolk, moved to Northamptonshire and lived locally for many years.

This was my other 'possible' entry, but I preferred my other photo, although I do prefer the history here.
This is the Eleanor Cross in Northampton.
Twelve were built to mark the resting places of Eleanor of Castile along the route her body was taken when transported back to London. This was was built in 1291 but at some point lost its top section, most likely in 1460, and it was believed to be a cross. Only three remain survive in a good state of repair.
