Oldboy

I was talking to some people today about how a Gull had tried to catch a baby Coot when this happened before my eyes.  ???

A picture from yesterday of two of the baby Coots.

The baby Coots were in the nest under mother when one decided to go down to the water to get a drink. The Gull had been waiting for this chance.

After washing the baby Coot in the lake....

...it turns it ready to swallow head first....

....and starts to swallow the baby Coot.

Very sad but yes that is nature
Coot's drown their own chicks if they pester the parents too much. I saw this on an Atenbouough  series 'The Life of Birds'. I sat there and cried my eyes out as the mother repetedly ducked the chick until it drowned  :'(
